Old Saybrook High School Alumni Announce New Scholarship Fund
The Old Saybrook High School Class of 1971 Scholarship Committee has announced the formation of a scholarship fund in the name of the late Anne Peterson, beloved history and social studies teacher for over 20 years.
“We are so pleased to honor Mrs. Peterson with this scholarship,” said Patricia Morico, Committee spokesperson.
“She was not only an accomplished educator, she was an extraordinary person. Mrs. Peterson set a wonderful example for her students through her character, kindness, and empathy.”
The scholarship will be awarded each year to a graduating senior going on to college, technical, or trade school who demonstrates high goal setting, strong work ethic, and exemplary leadership. Applicants must also submit an essay on the importance of studying history.
“The idea for a scholarship was an outgrowth of our recent 50-year class reunion, delayed a year due to COVID,” explained Ms. Morico. “With it, we hope to make a positive impact for future OSHS graduates in a similar way that Mrs. Peterson did for us.”
The fund will be managed through the town school system. For information on how to donate, contact Julie Pendleton, director of operations, at jpendleton@oldsaybrookschools.org
