Robert M. Wood
Robert M. Wood of Branford, died Nov. 7 from a brief illness. He was the beloved husband of 52 years to Freda Whitehead Wood. Robert was born in New Haven on May 27, 1941, son of the late Harry and Mildred Altrui Wood.
He was a 1959 graduate of Branford High School and then served four years in the U. S. Marine Corps. He worked as a machinist for the Lee Company, retiring in 2003. Robert enjoyed fishing and miniature woodworking, but music was his passion. He was a member of both the Connecticut Classic Guitar Society and the New England Guitar Society. He was also an excellent photographer. Robert volunteered for many years at Connecticut Hospice in Branford, bringing comfort to the staff and patients through his music. He also volunteered at area churches and the Branford Historical Society.
Besides Freda, Robert is survived by his three sons, Christopher (Jill) Wood of Branford, Michael Wood of New Haven, and Brandon (Christine) Wood of Old Lyme; his sister Donna (Michael) Aaronian of North Branford; grandchildren: Christopher “CJ” Wood, Mallory Wood, Amber (Joe) Malone and Savannah Wood; his great-grandson Simon Malone; his nieces, Jenna and Jocelyn, Kate and Elizabeth; and his sisters-in-law, Jane, Jean and Patricia; and many cousins and friends.
