Arrest Made in Essex Stabbing Incident
On Sept. 20 at approximately 8:33 p.m., members of the Connecticut State Police, Central District Major Crime, and patrol personnel at Troop F, Westbrook, investigeted a stabbing incident that occurred in the parking lot at Best Way Sunoco, 1 Saybrook Road, in Essex.
In the incident, a 35-year-old male from East Hartford sustained a stab wound to his chest area and was treated at a hospital for serious injuries. In addition, a 33-year-old female from Middletown sustained a laceration to her facial area and was treated and released from the hospital.
The suspect who stabbed both victims was eventually identified as Ronald Brooks, 24, of Staten Island, New York.
On Oct. 4, an arrest warrant was issued from Middletown Superior Court for Brooks for the commission of the crimes of assault in the first degree, assault in the second degree, criminal attempt to commit assault in the first degree, and possession of a dangerous weapon.
On Oct. 7 at approximately 3 p.m., Brooks surrendered himself at Troop F, where his arrest warrant was executed by Central District Major Crime detectives. He was held on a court-ordered $250,000 bond and was scheduled to be arraigned at GA #9 on Oct. 8.
Additional arrests not directly associated with the stabbing incident are expected.
Editor’s note: As reported earlier at Zip06.com, the stabbing victims fled by car to Essex Village, where a witness reported a severely damaged car driving up the street from the riverfront area and coming to a stop in front of the Griswold Inn, where the male victim got out with blood dripping down his face and fell on the ground.
