Valley 8th-Grade Girls’ Travel Hoops Caps Season with Tourney Title
The Valley 8th-grade girls’ travel basketball team recently finished off its season in style by recording a tournament win at the 38th Annual Neil Hoelck event in Waterford. Valley beat the favored Mystic squad by a 39-24 final to take the top spot in the tournament. Despite being out-sized, Valley jumped out to an early 10-2 advantage and held off Mystic for the win. The team’s formula for success included tenacious rebounding and defense, as well as consistent foul shooting. This win concluded a strong season in which Valley earned an overall record of 13-2, plus a share of the Shoreline Travel League title at 11-2. This class of girls finished their careers with a mark of 28-3 in their two years at John Winthrop Middle School.
“We are looking forward to following this group as they continue to progress in their high school careers,” said Head Coach Rick Ross.
