4.6% Voter Response Won't Impact New NB Budget
With only 4.6 percent of voters turning out at the polls yesterday, the Town Council's proposed $50.99 million budget with a .90 mill rate increase can now head back to the council for final adoption without changes.
Town Charter requires a 15 percent minimum voter turnout at the referendum question vote for the results of that vote to be actionable by the Town Council.
Just 409 of the town's registered 8,971 voters weighed in on the new budget with a vote yesterday. The majority of voters 331, rejected the budget as too high. Sixty voted to accept the budget as recommended and 18 rejected the budget as too low.
The Town Council recommended budget totals $50,998,927 with a recommended mill rate of 31.98 mills.
Once the Town Council adopts the budget, it will be implemented for the new fiscal year which begins July 1, 2016 and ends June 30, 2017.
