Recount: NB Dems Keep Council Majority
Today's recount at Town Hall keeps the final tally in favor of Democrat Chris Manna as the winner of the ninth seat on 2015-17 Town Council. The Democrats won five of the council's nine seats to become the majority party on the council for the first time in several terms.
The recount was triggered due to a win for the final seat on the Town Council by less than 20 votes, after Election Night totals showed Manna winning the seat by 1160 votes over Republican Shawna Pappa-Holzer, who received a total of 1155 votes according to the night's totals.
With his win, Manna claimed the fifth Democratic seat on the 2015-17 Town Council, giving the Democratic party it's first majority of the council for many terms. Most recently, a six-person Republican majority led the council for the past three terms, or six years.
Town Clerk Lisa Valenti released totals following today's recount, which was overseen by lead moderator Lisa Fitch. The new total showed Manna receiving a total of 1161 votes and Pappa-Holzer receiving a total of 1156 votes.
